At the Cape Town Family History Society meet on Saturday 21 June 2025, at 2pm for 2:30pm the speaker will be
Patric Tariq Mellet.
Patric has chosen the tile: Memory is Empoweringfor his talk on Saturday 21 June 2025 at 2pm for 2:30pm. Patric writes: I often refer to “Restorative Memory is vital to crafting Restorative Justice”. Remembering and uncovering what is hidden is enabling and empowering at a personal level and at community and national levels. My auto-biography – Cleaners Boy; A Resistance Road to a Liberated Life addresses this at a personal level; and my books The Lie of 1652 and The Truth about Cape Slavery address this subject at a range of levels in exploring our history as South Africans – a history poised between lies and truths. This talk will speak to my journey of research and writing, ancestral exploration and serving our people and country through these mediums.
The cover of his autobiography, Cleaner’s Boy: A Resistance Road to a Liberated Life describes him as “a freedom fighter, a mystic and always a firebrand.” More details of the subject of his talk will be added to this page when they become available but do join us on the day for what looks likely to be an exciting talk.
