A diverse group of people interested in family history and genealogy,
-
who want to learn more about how to do family history research;
-
who may be beginners in the area, or relatively experienced;
-
who want to learn more about the history of Cape Town and elsewhere in South Africa from a family history perspective;
-
who want to help others research their families by means of hints and discussions at our monthly meetings;
-
who enjoy building up their own family trees, with or without software;
-
who may be interested in how their DNA may be used to assist their family history;
-
who enjoy hearing stories about the family history of others;
-
who may be willing to share aspects of their own family history with others.
The Cape Town Family History Society was founded in 2002, and has grown significantly since then.
It has monthly meetings, usually on the 3rd Saturday of each month*, at 2:00 pm for 2:30 pm in St Johns Church Hall, St Johns Rd, Wynberg, Cape Town.
- There are sometimes outings to historical places, and get-togethers with other societies.
- There may occasionally be online meetings.
- Society members may browse and borrow from the Society’s large library of genealogical books.
- They also receive a very informative and interesting quarterly newsletter.
- While annual membership is encouraged, visitors are always welcome at meetings for a small fee.
*To avoid potential loadshedding from Stages 2 or 3, meetings move to the 4th Saturday of the month when the 3rd Saturday falls on the 15th or 16th of the month (e.g. March, June and November in 2024).
